Cubs: David Ross Takes Stage In Play Celebrating 2016 Championship Run
It was hard to escape the good feelings around Wrigley Field this past weekend as the Chicago Cubs engaged in a much-needed sweep of the rival Milwaukee Brewers.
The same could be said for inside and around the Royal George Theatre on North Halsted, which for the past several weekends has engulfed fans of musicals and the Cubbies in a quick time warp back to when "miracles" actually broke in the favor of the North Siders.
"Miracle" the musical uses an ensemble cast to tell a feel-good story of Cubs loyalists surrounding the most feel-good time any such person could remember -- the 2016 World Series championship run. One of the most beloved heroes of that season -- former catcher (and likely next manager) David Ross -- joined the cast Sunday during the play's routine singing of the Seventh Inning Stretch during its intermission.
Ross has well-established himself as a willing performer given his surprising run on "Dancing With The Stars," so this turn in the spotlight shouldn't be so surprising.
We say let the man take a shot at a dramatic monologue on the boards at nearby Steppenwolf, or maybe he could spit a freestyle at the next hip-hop night at Subterranean. We may have a real 5-tool entertainer on our hands here -- watch out Jamie Foxx and Donald Glover.
The Cubs are back in action tonight at home against Oakland, having done most of the heavy lifting needed to keep itself in the playoff race by winning consistently at the Friendly Confines.
"Miracle" the musical is running extended dates through Labor Day.
