Stop me if you’ve heard this one before -- the Chicago Bears lay an egg offensively but are able to stay in the ballgame thanks to their defense, only to lose painfully once again?
It's another week and another loss, a third in a row for the Bears, this time to the Titans 24-17 in Tennessee on Sunday afternoon. A deceptively close final score that only wound up that way because the Bears scored all their points in desperation time in the fourth quarter after falling behind by as much as 24-3.
All the same head-scratching issues on offense showed up again in this game as Chicago yielded one 3 and out after another with too many stalled drives and turnovers sprinkled in to lead to a victory against any opponent, let alone the leaders in the AFC South. More questions and far fewer answers are being provided by the team and its coaches as this season unfolds.
Luckily, this Bears team has a defense that is capable of keeping the team in every game, but after awhile as a fan you start to feel deep sympathy for another good Chicago defense that's being wasted. Perhaps the only question on the mind of Bears fans at this moment is are how far will the franchise will go in terms of accountability and acknowledgment.
Is the duo of general manager Ryan Pace and head coach Matt Nagy possibly on the chopping block? Nothing has been established, but they should be. Precious little faith has been earned by the front office and coaching staff, but its possible that the franchise is taking advantage of this oh-so-familiar feeling that comes with being a Bears fan.
Like some awkward and way less entertaining version of "Groundhog Day," the Bears are reliving the same nightmare again and again.
